Bicycle ride
EN: I hardly use the bus or metro, only if I want to get somewhere very quickly and don't have the time to walk. This blog could also be called "walking the streets of Paris." I walk a lot, everywhere I can, it's important for me to know my neighbourhood, what is around me and how to get everywhere. This monday I started to use the Velib bicycles and I am very excited about that. Bicycle is a popular way to move around Paris. There are many lanes only for bicycles or lanes shared with buses. I learned to understand the rhythm of parisian traffic thanks to being a co-driver on a scooter, this experience gave me a lot of courage and I am not afraid to be in the crazy traffic. It's very easy to subscribe to Velib. You can choose between Velib Classic card (€29 per year which gives you 30 first minutes free) or Velib passion card (€39 per year with 45 first minutes free). There are some interesting discounts for under 26 years old. The trick in using the Velib is to take a new bike every 30 minutes from one of the many stands around the city, so you don't pay more than €1.70 if you buy a day card or you pay nothing if you are a subscriber (except of course, the annual fee). My advice would be, before you take the bike check the tires, see whether the chain is in the right place, adjust the seat and if everything works, enjoy the ride and get ready for some leg/butt pain to come.
