Dubai Diary #1 The Beach
EN: Dubai surprised us, to say the least. Who would have thought that there is so much to see and do?! Certainly not us and we soon realised that one week will not be enough to experience everything this expanding city has to offer. This was our first trip to the United Arab Emirates and we enjoyed and loved every-single-minute to the maximum, the weather (29 degrees at midnight - apparently unusually warm for April), superb views, buildings, excellent restaurants and much more. I would like to share with you my little Dubai Diary and start with the most important thing, which is of course, The Beach!
Our favourite beach was the Jumeirah Beach Residence Open Beach (next to the hotel Hilton). Not all beaches are free and have toilet facilities or shops/restaurants, but this one had everything. If you need a new swimsuit, you might like to check out Victoria's Secret shop just around the corner! (that totally took me by surprise and Paul boulangerie right opposite left a huge smile on my face). The sea was already warm (I don't want to imagine what it must be like in August), but with a pleasant breeze it was perfectly manageable to stay on the beach the whole day. We loved to go for a refreshing mint/lemon juice to the Coffeeshop company, where we had free wifi and our favourite restaurant was the newly opened Leopold's of London with a perfect view of the beach. There is also a supermarket called All day where you can buy drinks, food, sunscreen etc. If you like, and the hot weather makes it possible, take a little walk at The Walk at JBR (1.7kilometres long) full of hotels and restaurants with a great atmosphere, where you'll see mixture of Arabic and western world.
Note: walking around in swimsuit is only allowed on the beach, you'll have to put some clothes on if you decide to go to The Walk for a drink or a snack.
