Park Hyatt Zanzibar part 1
The third thing "You might not know about me" is that traveling is a huge part of my job but I'm scared shitless (excuse my french) of flying! I took the plane hundreds of times in my life and this fear is quite a recent feeling. I'm not sure what exactly happened that triggered such fear inside me but a friend once told me that flying business class will help me to overcome this fear. Well, if I could only fly business everytime haha. But my recent trip to Zanzibar proved my friend right. Sick to my stomach, I boarded the Qatar Airways flight, trembling with the thought of a 12 hour flight, with a stopover in Doha.
It might have been the service, the size of the plane or the fact that I was in fact flying business class, but for the first time in about three years, I wasn't scared! I actually enjoyed the flight and that's a huge statement! I'm sure it had also something to do with me being extremely excited to discover Zanzibar! I always wanted to visit this part of the world and once landed (thanking Qatar for such safe flight!) I felt for the #*#* time this year, enormous gratitude!
I love my job, I love that it brings me to places I always dreamed of visiting.... that gratitude again!
We checked into the newly opened Park Hyatt and I went straight on the terrace to simply stare at the Indian ocean for the second time this year. The sun was setting down and as the colours started slowly changing I snapped a quick photo in my head, my first Zanzibari sunset I will never forget.
One part of the hotel is a UNESCO heritage building with roots dating back to the 17th century. I immediately fell in love with the deco, with the original wooden beams and especially the Arabic style lanterns!!! I couldn't get enough of them, making a promise to myself that one day I'll own one (just need a huge house for it, but that's a tiny detail). Sunset was my favourite part of the day, watching the boats go by while sipping an ice cold drink, sitting on the sun-kissed terrace, I could get used to this :)
I hope you'll enjoy my perspective of this magical place in this first part of my Zanzibar trip, two more posts are coming in the next days. xx
P.S: The last two photos were taken from the Qatar aircraft when all of a sudden we happened to be right above Kilimanjaro! The highest mountain in Africa! Pretty incredible sight, don't you think?
