#BestOf2015 Travel

by - 09:35

I love to travel, A LOT! Whenever I get the chance to change the air, I'm packed in a few minutes! In 2015 I traveled to many exciting cities and countries but mostly for work. The only exception was Slovakia when I went to see my family and our honeymoon. Oh! and of course Rome, that was a very special occasion I'll tell you about very soon.

London, Milan fashion week, Florence for LuisaViaRoma, Cannes for Film Festival, I got to know France a bit better and I was lucky enough to visit Zanzibar for the first time!

I celebrated New Year in Brussels and as I'm writing this post, I already returned from my first work trip this year to Florence, Italy.... quite a busy start of 2016. My biggest wish would be to finally made it to the US. I've never been to America .... like ever!

When I travel for work I don't really get to see the city because of ... yeah, work. I don't think I'm the best person to do a city guide but there's one city I know pretty well (or shall I say, I used to) and I thought I'll share with you some of my favourite places.

London! A city so close to my heart, I have an urgent need (at least twice a year) to go back and hear that British accent again. I used to know London very well, but this place is changing so rapidly. There are however few "oldies" and whenever I'm back in my old town I love to go for a stroll and discover them all over again.

WHERE TO STAY

Warning! London is huge, I mean huuuuuge! If you don't want to spend hours commuting, finding a place right in the heart of the area you're most interested in might cost you a bit more, but it will save you the time (trust me on this one when it comes to London). And time is money too!

The location of your hotel is absolutely important and my pick is the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge! Overlooking Hyde Park, only few minutes walk from Victoria and Albert museum, High Street Kensington, neighbor to Harrods and Harvey Nichols ... this address is top! And so is the hotel. Make sure to try the burger at Bar Boulud (french-style bistro) and have a high tea in the Rosebery Lounge (both situated inside the hotel).

Huge Thank you! to the amazing team at Grand Luxury Hotels for helping me organise my stay. xx

COFFEE FIRST

Tap Coffee! I stumbled across this café in Soho and loved it! My flat white was a perfection.

WHERE TO EAT

This place is a must and I can't wait to go back. It's not only about the food but also about the place itself. Maybe you've heard of Jamie's Kitchen? A British documentary, where a group of fifteen disadvantaged youth are trained by chef Jamie Oliver and offered jobs at his restaurant if they complete the course. I've had the most delicious meal at the restaurant, called Fifteen, prepared by those who made it and are now proudly working at this charitable foundation. Not only a great place to eat but also extremely inspirational. A must if you ask me.

Burger & Lobster

The choice is simple, burger or lobster or lobster roll. The price is set to 20£, an excellent price for a lobster, a bit pricey for a burger. Be prepared to get messy but no need to worry, you'll get an apron upon arrival :) There are a few branches around London, I went to the one in Soho but there's also one on the fifth floor of Harvey Nichols (right opposite Mandarin Oriental, just saying).

Fortnum & Mason

I love an English High Tea (afternoon tea). It's a perfect occasion to get together with your friends and indulge in all the goodies in front of you, I'm talking unlimited pastries ... so dangerous! I tried a few places around London and during my last visit, I went for the first time to Fortnum & Mason. A wonderful department store established in 1707, I'd recommend even just to go and have a look inside. Apparently this is where the Queen shops! :) The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon (opened by her majesty, The Queen) was a cherry on top on my last trip. Finger sandwiches, scones and clothed cream, cakes and sweets... ok, I'm starving now!

SHOPPING

Harrods

I don't want to repeat myself, but here I go again. Right next to the Mandarin Oriental is the most beautiful (in my opinion) upmarket department store in London, Harrods. The building itself is stunning and inside, well... you're about to spend there a few hours, if not days!

Clerkenwell

This place is fabulous! I found out about it through a friend who was invited to the opening party and she took me with her. The minute I walked inside I was hooked. A concept store in London! Something we're so used to here in Paris, but quite an unusual thing in London. You can easily spend a whole day here shopping for homeware, fashion, jewellery, stationery, art music in 13,000sq ft space... wow! They offer product selection from almost 100 designers, telling their stories and revealing the magic behind the products they create, make sure to put this on your list.

MARKETS

You must visit a few markets around London (as you should also see at least one musical or theatre performance!). I started my day at the Columbia road flower market and from the name you already know what to expect ... loooots of flowers. I then walked all the way to the Brick Lane market (stop for a great coffee at the Kahaila Café). If you're hungry, this is a great place for street food. Also known for vintage shopping and local crafters, just take your time and look around, the atmosphere is fantastic. Around the corner is another smaller market called Old Spitalfields market. If you didn't eat at the Brick Lane, you won't be able to say no to what this market has to offer. Great food stalls!

Another favourite of mine is Covent Garden. I come here everytime I'm in town. Right in the heart of London, you can find here everything. I love the tiny little shops, cafés and restaurants, the atmosphere is like nowhere else!

Borough Market, my favourite by far, is located next to London Bridge station and I love everything about it. The location, fantastic atmosphere, lot's of food! Maybe I would prefer it to be less crowded, but this is London, everything is crowded, always.
